DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING SEARCH WARRANT IN RED LAKE

(RED LAKE, ON) - An investigation led by the Red Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from members from the Dryden OPP CSCU, Kenora OPP CSCU, and Red Lake detachment, has led to charges being laid against one individual.
On May 21st, 2026, just after 2:00 pm, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit executed a Controlled drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Prospect Street in the Municipality of Red Lake. One individual was arrested and charged with drug related offences. The investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected illicit drugs, including suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine, and MDMA as well as a quantity of Canadian currency. Police also seized a loaded crossbow, bear spray, and evidence of drug trafficking.
As a result of the investigation, Anthony HOWELL, 42-years-old, of Red Lake, has been charged under the Controlled drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code with the following offences:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - fentanyl and MDMA
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order (3 counts)
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (2 counts)
HOWELL was held in custody for a bail hearing on May 22nd, 2026.
