DRYDEN, ON - January 31, 2026
Members of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the Laura Howe Marsh parking area shortly after 6:00 am on January 31, 2026.
Police were advised that a black SUV had entered the parking lot and then rapidly accelerated, launching over a snowbank and into a ditch. The lone male occupant exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Officers located the individual a short distance away a short time later.
As a result of the investigation, Wade Wetelainen, a 33-year-old male from Wabigoon Lake First Nation, has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Investigators note that just over one month prior, the accused was arrested and charged for the same two offences after allegedly live‑streaming while consuming illicit substances and operating a motor vehicle.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
