MALE ARRESTED AFTER FLEEING CRIME SCENE
Stolen Property Recovered
(RIDEAU LAKES TWP., ON) - A large amount of stolen property has been recovered, and one person is in custody following a break-in south of Westport.
Officers with the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a cottage on Perth Road on Sunday, November 2, 2025, shortly after 4:30 pm A suspicious person had been seen on the property.
The officers spotted a male who ran into the forest, leaving a vehicle behind. That vehicle had earlier been reported stolen
Additional officers and the OPP Canine Unit converged on the area and began a search. The individual was located just before 7:00 pm
In addition to the vehicle officers recovered other stolen property including household appliances and other household items, power tools and hunting and camping equipment. Officers also seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
Benjamin FREW, age 49 of Kingston has been charged with
- Entering premises when prohibited
- Mischief - destroys or damages property
- Possession of break-in tools
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Theft of a vehicle
- Using a licence plate not in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
- Operation of a vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Failure to comply with an undertaking - four counts
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Monday, November 3, 2025.
