(CENTRE HASTINGS, ON) - Officers from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.

On Saturday March 14, 2026, at approximately 9:30 pm, police received a report of a vehicle stuck in a snowbank on Johnston Rd in Thomasburg. Police attended the scene and numerous open alcohol containers were observed in the vehicle. The driver provided a sample of their breath into an approved alcohol screening device at the roadside. Subsequently, the driver was arrested and transported to the Central Hastings Detachment for further testing.

Tanya VANDERWATER, age 50, of Centre Hastings, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 23, 2026. Additionally, their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.
