The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made two arrests and laid multiple charges following an auto theft investigation in Oakville.

On May 25, 2026, the HRPS responded to a residence in Oakville after the overnight theft of a Toyota Sequoia SUV. Suspects smashed a window to gain entry to the vehicle and then used a reprogramming device to start and steal the SUV.

Investigators were able to track the suspects to a location in East York and subsequently conducted surveillance in the area. During the investigation, officers identified additional stolen vehicles in the possession of the suspects.

On May 27, 2026, Thyson Joseph (23) of Quebec was arrested in East York and charged with the following offences:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 (two counts)
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking (two counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

At the time of his arrest, Joseph was bound by two separate release orders related to previous auto theft charges.

Joseph was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

Maika Lumumba (23) of Quebec was also arrested on May 27, 2026. She has been charged with one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.

Officers also executed a search warrant at a residence in East York and seized:

  • An Acura sedan stolen from Montreal
  • An Acura SUV stolen from Peel Region
  • A reprogramming device
  • Stolen licence plates
  • Additional stolen property
