(GANANOQUE, ON) - The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal collision on Highway 401 eastbound near Deer Ridge Dr, west of Gananoque.

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, shortly before 11:30 pm, Leeds OPP responded after a transport truck collided with a pick-up truck.

The driver of the transport truck did not sustain any injuries, while the driver of the pick-up truck, a 51-year-old man of Gatineau, Québec, was transported to a regional trauma centre, where he was pronounced deceased. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team is assisting with the investigation. This includes the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators and a Collision Reconstructionist.

The highway remained closed for approximately eight hours which allowed for a thorough investigation.
