TWO ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTED BREAK AND ENTER IN SIOUX LOOKOUT

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) - On May 12, 2026, at approximately 12:30 pm, members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible break and enter on Meadwell Drive.
Police were advised that a neighbour observed two individuals attempting to gain entry to a locked residence through both the front and rear doors. The attempts were unsuccessful, and the individuals left the area prior to police arrival. Officers located the suspects a short time later.
As a result of the investigation, two individuals were arrested and charged.
Garnet SUMNER, 37-years-old, of Peguis First Nation, has been charged with:
- Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
Leila MILES, 25-years-old, of Fort Severn First Nation, has been charged with:
- Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Release Order - 3 counts
Both accused were held for bail and remanded into custody at the Kenora District Jail. They are scheduled to appear before the Court at a later date.
This was an isolated incident, and both accused are known to the homeowner. Police do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety.
