2 District Street Crime Unit Seizes over $11,000 in Illicit Substances

In December 2025, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara-on-the-Lake) Street Crime Unit (SCU) began an investigation into the illegal trafficking of drugs at a residence on Buchanan Avenue in the City of Niagara Falls. Detectives applied for and were subsequently granted a judicial search warrant, which was executed at approximately 8:00 PM on January 28, 2026. Two suspects were arrested within the residence.
As a result of the investigation, the following items were seized:
- 334 Hydromorphone Tablets (street value of $6680)
- 52.5 grams Fentanyl (street value of $5250)
- $3651 Canadian Currency
- $444 US Currency
- 2 expandable metal batons
43-year-old Catharine VAN BERGEN of Niagara Falls is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Hydromorphone)
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime under $5000
32-year-old Tyler CORMIER of Niagara Falls is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Hydromorphone)
- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime under $5000
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
VAN BERGEN and CORMIER remain in custody and are scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
