UPDATE #1 - ARREST - 5 District Detectives Investigating Armed Robbery – Fort Erie

Detectives with the 5 District (Fort Erie) Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) have continued to investigate this incident.
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, detectives formed grounds to charge 27-year-old Patrick SASSANO of Fort Erie for the following criminal offences:
- Robbery Using a Firearm
- Disguised with Intent
- Possession of an Imitation Weapon
SASSANO remains in custody and is scheduled to attend court on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

On Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 7:40 pm, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 5 District (Fort Erie) uniform officers were dispatched to a convenience store on Bertie Street near North Street for an armed robbery.
The investigation revealed that a male suspect approached the clerk, brandished a handgun, and demanded money from the till. The clerk complied and the suspect was given a quantity of currency. The suspect fled the area in a black sedan and was last seen headed northbound on High Street.
The suspect is described as follows:
- White
- Male
- 5’10”
- Approximately 25 years old
- Brown winter jacket
- Grey hooded sweatshirt
- Black pants
- Brown and black work boots
- Dark coloured facemask
- Red and black toque
5 District Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) has taken carriage of the investigation. Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance and are asking any residents or businesses in the area of Bertie Street to review their video surveillance footage and contact police if the suspect or suspect vehicle is observed.
