Welland Man Arrested in Elder Fraud Investigation

On Friday, February 6, 2026, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 3 District (Welland/Pelham) Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) responded to a residence in the area of Sixth Street in the City of Welland for reports of a male defrauding a vulnerable elderly victim.
Investigation revealed that a male suspect had completed trivial tasks for the victim, and was able to convince the victim that he was a friend / relative. He used the opportunity to transport the victim via taxi to the bank, and the victim withdrew cash that was provided to the suspect. This occurred on approximately five separate occasions before neighbours confronted the male on the sixth occasion and contacted police.
On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, 3 District uniform officers arrested 47-year-old Jason JACOBS for the following criminal offences:
- Fraud Under $5000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
- Uttering Threats
JACOBS remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
