OPP INVESTIGATES COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 401 IN TORONTO

(TORONTO, ON) - The Toronto detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division is investigating a collision that happened on Highway 401 at McCowan Road in Scarborough.
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, at approximately 10:25 pm, officers responded to reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian in the westbound collector lanes of Highway 401.
A young person from Toronto was pronounced deceased at the scene. No foul play is suspected.
All westbound collector lanes of Highway 401 between Markham Road and McCowan Road were closed for the on-scene investigation with assistance from OPP Technical Collision Investigators and a Reconstructionist, and have since reopened.
