(SOUTH PORCUPINE, ON) - Between December 18 and December 30, 2025, officers from the South Porcupine and Iroquois Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued 20 Provincial Offence Notices (PON) for driving on a closed highway.

Driving around barricades puts your safety and the safety of first responders at risk. Travelling on a closed highway may interfere with snow removal and increases the response time for emergency crews.

Both police and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) take several factors into consideration before choosing to close a highway. These include collisions, visibility, ice and snow accumulation and blowing snow.

Motorists are reminded to monitor weather and road conditions before travelling, allow extra time to reach their destination, and exercise patience during adverse conditions.
