TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES

(Hawkesbury, ON) An Ottawa resident has been charged with multiple criminal offences following a traffic stop.
Monday, April 20, 2026, shortly after 10:00 pm, OPP officers from Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 417, in the Township of Nation, following a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.
During the investigation officers seized a replica handgun, a large amount of Canadian currency and multiple cellphones.
Joshua Emmanuel NEWKIRK, age27, from Ottawa was charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
- Disobeying order of court
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
- Material benefit from sexual services (living off the avails)
- Carrying concealed weapon
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
