(NIPIGON, ON) - One person has been charged in relation to a fatal snowmobile incident in Nipigon.
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, shortly after 7:00 am, officers from the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency medical services responded to a report of a fatal snowmobile incident along Highway 11/17 near Settler’s Road. A youth from Lake Helen First Nation, who was operating the snowmobile, was pronounced deceased.
As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old from Nipigon was charged with criminal negligence causing death contrary to section 220 of the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.
