CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING FATAL MARINE INCIDENT AT WESLEMKOON LAKE

(ADDINGTON HIGHLANDS, ON) - Members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges on a boater after a passenger fell overboard early yesterday morning and did not resurface.
At approximately 7:45 am on Saturday, July 12, 2025, OPP received a call that an individual had fallen into the water at Weslemkoon Lake in the Township of Addington Highlands.
A coordinated response was launched involving units from the OPP’s L&A County and Bancroft Detachments, Marine Unit, Aviation Services, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, as well as the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.
Later that day, at approximately 8:00 pm, the body of a deceased 22-year-old male from Toronto was recovered.
As a result of the investigation, Dawson LOWES, a 21-year-old male also from Toronto, has been charged with:
- Operation causing death
- Dangerous operation causing death
- Operating while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The investigation is ongoing and the identity of the deceased is not being released at this time.
