Two youth charged with multiple offences including arson
(DESERONTO, ON) - A fire at a historic building in Deseronto has led to two youths facing criminal charges.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, shortly after 6:00 pm the Lennox and Addington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was notified of a commercial structure fire on Main Street in Deseronto. Police arrived on scene to find the former Canada Optical and flea market building completely engulfed in flames.
Following a police investigation, two youths who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), have been charged jointly with:
- Arson - damage to property
- Break, enter a place - with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Mischief - destroys or damages property
Both accused were released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Youth Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.
