Driver charged with stunt driving

On April 11, 2025, at approximately 1:05 pm a member of the Kingston Police Patrol Division was conducting an extra-duty in the area of Front Road and Lakeview Avenue. The extra-duty was to provide additionally road safety for a crew conducting work on sewer lines in that area.
The officer heard a vehicle accelerating toward their location, at which point the officer could see the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer was equipped with a handheld radar unit and was able to determine the vehicle was travelling at a speed of 133km/hr in the posted 50km/hr zone. At the time there were workers present on the roadway.
The officer initiated a traffic stop with lights and sirens and the vehicle did pull to the right and stop, however it had travelled an additional 400 meters due to its high speed.
The driver of the vehicle was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act and their license was suspended for 30 days, the vehicle was seized for 14 days.
