Driver Charged After Report of Motorist Slumped Over the Wheel in Midland

(MIDLAND, ON) The Southern Georgian Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver following a report from a concerned member of the public who observed a vehicle stopped at an intersection with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.

On January 14, 2026 at 6:15 pm, responding officers attended the intersection of King Street and Yonge Street in the Town of Midland and located the vehicle stopped at the traffic signal. Police spoke with the driver, who appeared confused and displayed signs of impairment. As the investigation continued, officers formed grounds to believe the driver was impaired by drugs. The driver was arrested and transported to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment to perform a drug recognition evaluation.

As a result, Cheyanne LESSARD, 31 years, of Midland faces the following Criminal Code charges:

  • Operation while Impaired

The accused released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on January 29, 2026. In Ontario, drivers charged with impaired operation are subject to an immediate 90‑day driver’s licence suspension and a 7‑day vehicle impoundment.
