(MIDLAND, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay Detachment continues to conduct proactive patrols on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails throughout North Simcoe.
On January 19, 2026, officers were patrolling in the Town of Midland when a motorized snow vehicle (MSV) was stopped for failing to display a valid trail permit. The operator was unable to provide a driver’s licence, insurance, or ownership for the snowmobile, which was also found to have expired validation.
As a result, Ryan SPADEMAN, 29 years of Midland, was arrested and charged with Operation While Prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code. He was also charged with multiple offences under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Midland on March 12, 2026. The snowmobile involved was impounded for 45 days.
In addition to this occurrence, officers issued numerous provincial charges related to licence suspensions, no insurance, no trail permits, improper equipment modifications, and documentation offences. Since January 1, 2026, Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers have laid 17 Provincial Offence Notices/Part III summonses and issued 15 warnings on OFSC trails.
