OPP Respond to Potential Threat at Secondary School in Midland

(MIDLAND, ON) The Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded today to a reported potential threat involving a Midland secondary school, prompting a precautionary hold and secure while officers conducted a thorough investigation.
At approximately 11:30 am, officers received information regarding a possible threat toward the safety of the school. Members of the OPP immediately attended to ensure the protection of students and staff while the situation was assessed.
Shortly after 12:00 pm, and in consultation with responding officers, school staff placed the building under a hold-and-secure as a precautionary measure.
During a hold-and-secure, regular activities continue inside the school; however, all exterior doors are secured and no one is permitted to enter or exit the building.
Through investigative efforts, officers were able to quickly determine that the source of the reported threat was not present at the school. Individuals involved were identified and spoken to at the detachment. Police were able to determine that no criminal offence had been committed.
This conclusion was reached near the end of the school day. Officers remained on scene to support an orderly and safe dismissal of students.
