- Update #4 -OPP Continue Investigation into Suspicious Fire in PenetanguisheneSuspect Located and Arrested - Faces Arson Charges(PENETANGUISHENE, ON) The Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested a suspect in relation to the ongoing investigation into a suspicious fire at a multi‑unit residential dwelling on Poyntz Street in Penetanguishene.
On the afternoon of January 23, 2026, a uniform member was conducting patrol duties in the Town of Midland when the suspect was located outside a County Road 93 shopping centre. He was arrested without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Andrew HAWKE, 43 years of Penetanguishene, has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following charges:
- Arson - Disregard for Human Life
- Arson - Damage to Property
HAWKE was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice, which is scheduled to take place on January 24, 2026.
