MANITOULIN OPP MAKE IMPAIRED DRIVING ARREST FOLLOWING INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE CALL

(ESPANOLA, ON) - One person is facing multiple charges after the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an intimate partner violence (IPV) incident.
On Sunday, March 1, 2026, at approximately 7:00 pm, the Manitoulin OPP received a report of an IPV dispute at a residence in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township. Information received in the report indicated that the individual involved had left the scene in a vehicle. While responding to the address, officers observed a stationary vehicle on Tudhope Avenue in Espanola that matched the description provided. An investigation was initiated, and the driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation.
The driver, 54-years-old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
- Assault - spousal
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code - four counts
- Driving while under suspension - two counts
- Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Failure to comply with release order
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Monday, March 23, 2026.
Due to the intimate partner nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the victim’s identity.
