SNOWMOBILE OPERATOR ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING AFTER TRAFFIC STOP FOR NO HELMET

(ESPANOLA, ON) - The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged the operator of a motorized snow vehicle (MSV) with impaired driving after a traffic stop in Espanola.

On Sunday, February 22, 2026, at approximately 12:30 am, an OPP officer on general patrol observed an MSV travelling on Centre Street near Secord Street in Espanola. The operator was not wearing a helmet, and a traffic stop was conducted. During the investigation, the officer detected an odour of alcohol, and as a result of further investigation, the operator was arrested for impaired operation.

Carson DEWAR, 28-years-old from Lively, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to wear proper helmet
  • Fail to produce evidence of insurance

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Monday, May 4, 2026.
