MOTORIST CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(QUINTE WEST, ON) - The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges in an impaired driving investigation.
On Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 2:40 pm, on Dundas Street East, Trenton, a traffic complaint led Quinte West OPP to suspect a motorist may have been impaired.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), the Controlled drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA) and the Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA).
Jason BACHUS, age 51, from Quebec, was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possess unmarked cigarettes
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 9, 2026. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
