(DOURO-DUMMER TOWNSHIP, ON) - The Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating another Scam that has been reported in Douro-Dummer Township.
On Friday March 13, 2026, the Peterborough County OPP received a call from an individual who had become a victim in a recent Scam. On Wednesday March 11, 2026, the victim received a call from someone who they believed to be from their bank. The victim was advised that their credit card had been fraudulently used in another province. The victim was then instructed to take both their credit card and debit card, place them into an envelope, and were provided with a reference number to write on the envelope. They were then instructed to leave the envelope in a location where they would be collected and used as part of the bank’s investigation. At approximately11:30pm, an individual attended the residence and picked up the envelope.
The following day, the victim was contacted again by the same person and was asked various personal questions that they believed were needed as part of the bank’s investigation. It was later discovered that over $14,000 had been transferred from the victim’s account.
A similar incident was reported on Thursday March 5, 2026, where the individual reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from their bank and convinced them to cut up their cards and told them they would send a representative to pick them up. An individual attended their residence, picked up the cut-up cards and left. The complainant called their bank afterwards after figuring out it was a scam and had all the cards cancelled. Fortunately, they were able to avoid losing their savings.
