(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) - An officer from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired driving after responding to a call from a concerned homeowner.

On Wednesday May 27, 2026, just prior to midnight, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP was dispatched to a complaint of a possible impaired driver. The caller advised that a vehicle had pulled off the roadway with damage to it. The homeowner went to speak with the vehicle operator and contacted police.

Officers arrived on scene and after a short conversation with the driver, the officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied and as a result was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further tests.

Vaughn IRWN (age 20) of Lakehurst, ON., was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Young driver - B.A.C. above zero

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 7, 2026.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
