ITSU charges snowmobile driver after fail to stop

On March 30, 2026, members of the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit – Specialized Enforcement Unit were conducting a snowmobile spot check on a Sudbury Trail Plan trail in Hanmer, when a snowmachine approached the spot check, however the driver failed to stop when directed by officers. The driver sped off on the snowmachine.
Through the investigation, members of the ITSU were able to identify the driver believed to be involved in the incident.
On April 15, 2026, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Val Caron. The driver of the snowmachine, a 19-year-old, man from Greater Sudbury was arrested and charged with the following offences under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act:
- Fail to Stop for Police Officer
- Careless Driving
- Drive – No Insurance
- Disobey Sign
- Drive Motorized Snow Vehicle, trail permit not issued
- Fail to Display Registration Number
- Improper Muffler
The individual was released with a court date of June 12, 2026, to answer to the charges. His name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
