cocaineAround 5:55 pm on April 7, 2026, we received a report of an alleged impaired driver operating a motor vehicle in an erratic manner on Municipal Road 35 in Azilda. Officers were provided with a description of the vehicle and the licence plate and were able to locate the vehicle in Chelmsford.

After locating the vehicle, officers conducted a traffic stop and began speaking with the driver. While speaking with the driver, officers saw what is believed to be illicit drugs inside the vehicle in plain view. As a result, the driver was placed under arrest.

During this time, officers noted that the driver exhibited signs of impairment. Officers conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), during which the driver performed poorly. The driver was transported to police headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an examination confirming that the driver was impaired by drugs.

cocaineDuring a search incident to arrest, officers located 624 grams of suspected cocaine inside the vehicle. The estimated value of the drugs is $62,470. Officers also located multiple cellular phones and drug‑packaging materials.

As a result of the investigation, a 22‑year‑old, man from Greater Sudbury has been charged with the following offences under the Controlled drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), Criminal Code of Canada and Highway Traffic Act (HTA):

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation While Impaired by drugs
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of More Than One Driver’s Licence

The individual was released on an undertaking with a court date of May 20, 2026, to answer to the charges.

The individual also had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
