ABANDONED VEHICLE LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING OFFENCES

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) - The City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to take impaired drivers off our roadways through ongoing enforcement and community‑reported concerns.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, at approximately 8:08 pm, officers responded to an abandoned vehicle in the ditch on Highway in Fenelon Township. Through investigation officers charged a driver with impaired driving offences.
Thomas Strong, 59-year-old of Dungarry, Nova Scotia, Canada, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Careless Driving
Strong was given a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension, and a future court date.
