(HEARST, ON) - On Saturday February 21, 2026, at approximately 11:15 am, members of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) with a smoking tire on Highway 11 in the Town of Hearst.

Officers located the vehicle and observed the trailer’s front passenger-side wheel had completely separated from the hub. Several lug nuts were missing and the remaining components showed significant wear, consistent with a major wheel separation defect.

As a result of the investigation a Winnipeg-based company has been charged with Wheel Separation - Commercial Motor Vehicle.

Further, the 28-year-old driver, also from Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle
  • Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle with a Major Defect in It or in Drawn Vehicle

The accused person and company are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice - Provincial Offences court on June 16, 2026 in Hearst.
