(MOOSONEE, ON) - The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with impaired driving after responding to a report of a vehicle stuck on the winter ice road between Moosonee and Moose Factory.

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at approximately 4:20 pm, officers from the James Bay OPP were called to investigate a suspected impaired driver whose vehicle had become lodged in a snowbank on the ice road.

Officers spoke to the driver and determined that alcohol was a factor. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Moosonee OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Bernard TRAPPER, 55 years of age, of Moose Factory, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 5, 2026 in Moosonee. Additionally, the driver was issued a 90‑day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS).
