DRIVER CHARGED FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING AND FAIL TO REMAIN

(MOONBEAM, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with impaired driving after they failed to remain at the scene of a collision in the Township of Moonbeam.
On Friday May 8, 2026, at approximately 5:20 pm, members of the James Bay OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 11. A pickup truck had left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch on the south side of the highway.
As the investigation progressed, it was determined that the driver had left the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The individual was located shortly after at a nearby residence.
Further investigation confirmed the individual as the driver, and officers observed signs of impairment.
The individual was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing OPP Detachment for further testing.
As a result, Marc CARRIERE, 48 years-of-age of Moonbeam, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Failure to stop after accident
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on July 6, 2026. Additionally, the accused received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
