DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE INCIDENT

(CHARLTON, ON) - A single vehicle in ditch near Charlton has resulted in impaired driving charges.
Members of the Englehart Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from Temiskaming OPP, responded to a report of a single motor vehicle in the ditch on Long Lake Road near Charlton during the early morning hours of April 16, 2026.
At approximately 6:30 am, police were dispatched after receiving a report of a black vehicle in the ditch.
Officers attended the scene and encountered a lone occupant and through the investigation, police determined they had consumed alcohol. The occupant was taken into custody and transported to detachment for further testing.
As a result, Payten Bembridge, 19-year-old from Englehart has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 7 days. In addition, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
