TOW OPERATOR AND COMPANY FACE MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER UNSAFE TOW ATTEMPT

(TEMAGAMI, ON) - The Temagami Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a tow operator after an unsafe tow attempt.
On Wednesday, June 11 at 12:40 pm, the Temagami OPP stopped a tow truck attempting to tow a trailer involved in a fire by removing 8 wheels and caging the brakes. Following a level two commercial vehicle safety inspection (CVSA), the vehicle combination was deemed unsafe and placed out of service. The plate and annual inspection sticker were removed.
A 27-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:
- Failing to document defects
- Driving with major defect
- Failing to wear required apparel
- Failing to comply with lamp requirement
- Operating with an insecure load
A Brampton based company was also charged with the following HTA offences:
- Failing to ensure proper inspection
- Permitting operation with an insecure load
- Failing to ensure operator compliance with apparel and lighting requirement
- Violating multiple sections of the Tow and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act (TSSEA)
Safety must never be compromised. Operators and companies are reminded of their responsibilities under the Highway Traffic Act and Tow and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act.
