(OTTAWA, ON) - Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have laid impaired driving related charges against an individual from Kemptville after he contacted police to request traffic control while waiting for a tow truck.
Shortly before 9:30 pm on April 29, OPP received a call from an individual whose vehicle was broken down on the side of Highway 417 near Vanier. The driver was requesting police attend for traffic control until a tow truck could attend. What the driver neglected to mention was that he had struck a sign with his vehicle in the City of Ottawa and fled the scene prior to police arrival. Upon speaking with the driver, police suspected the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device was utilized and the driver was brought back for further testing.
As a result, Musafiri YOPPE, 59 years of age from Kemptville, faces the following charges:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol content 80 plus
The accused had his licence suspended for 90 days and had his vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused is set to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa at a later date.
