(OTTAWA, ON) - Members of the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have laid Impaired Driving related charges against an individual from Ottawa after they were stopped for stunt driving early this morning.

Shortly after 1:30 am on April 23, OPP were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 417 near Maitland Ave. The speed limit in the area has been reduced to 80km/h due to construction. The driver was stopped for travelling at 143km/h in the 80km/h zone. Police suspected the driver to be under the influence of alcohol and a roadside breath test was administered. As a result, the driver was brought back to Ottawa Detachment for a breath test. The driver registered more than twice the legal limit.

Dan RUREMESHA, 29 years of age, faces the following charges:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt
  • Speeding

The accused had his licence suspended for 90-days for the impaired charges and 30 days for the stunt driving. Their vehicle was impounded for 14 days as a result of the stunt driving charges. The accused is set to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
