TWO INDIVIDUALS FACING TRAFFICKING CHARGES AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

(EWART TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members from the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged two individuals following a traffic stop.
On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, just after 1:00 am CDT, a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 17, just east of the Manitoba border in the Township of Ewart. After speaking with the driver, officers noted cannabis readily available and initiated an investigation.
During the investigation, officers seized suspected cocaine and fentanyl, knives, a BB gun, illegal licence plate cover, and other items.
As a result, Angela DUCHENE, 40-year-old of Elbow, SK has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC), Controlled drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), Cannabis Control Act, Highway Traffic Act, and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with the following offences:
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance - cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance - opioid
- Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Drive without proper headlights - motor vehicle
- Windshield obstructed
- Fail to surrender insurance card
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date.
Ryan KUZYK, 22-year-old of Camrose, AB has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with the following offences:
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance - cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance - opioid
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora at a later date.
