Arrest Made After Driver Flees RIDE Spot Check

(Toronto, ON) - The Toronto Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division has arrested an individual who fled from police during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.
On Saturday March 21, 2026, at around 11:50 pm, OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on the Highway 427 northbound on-ramp at The Queensway in Etobicoke. An Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert indicated a possible stolen vehicle and officers stopped the vehicle.
While police spoke with the driver outside of the vehicle, the passenger entered the driver’s seat, put the vehicle in drive, and fled the scene. In the process, the suspect vehicle collided with a passenger vehicle, an unoccupied police cruiser, and police officers. One of the officers was taken to hospital and sustained minor injuries.
On Tuesday April 7, 2026, the OPP Offender Management Apprehension Program (OMAP) and OPP Bail Support Team, with assistance from the Toronto Police Service 33 Division Major Crime Unit, located the accused in Toronto and took him into custody.
Khaleil MCDONALD, a 24-year-old of no fixed address, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Obstruct peace officer
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Flight from peace officer
- Failure to stop after accident
- Dangerous operation
- Operation while prohibited - three counts
- Fail to comply with Probation Order - three counts
The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
