(BURLINGTON, ON) - Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Highway Safety Division (HSD) - Burlington Detachment, are investigating a collision that has resulted in one fatality.

On Sunday, May 10, 2026, just after 12:00 am, a pedestrian was walking on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Fort Erie bound, approaching Fruitland Road, Stoney Creek (Hamilton) when he was struck by at least one vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, no other injuries were reported.

Investigators believe that the person, who has yet to be positively identified is believed to be an elderly male who was new to the area. He was struck by a vehicle initially that stopped and may have been stuck by additional vehicles that did not remain at the scene. One of the vehicles that may have struck the pedestrian but did not remain at the scene is believed to be a Honda motor vehicle based on debris located at the scene. This vehicle would have sustained damage to the front drivers side, the driver may not know what they struck.

The OPP is appealing to that driver and any other drivers who may travelled through the area around the time of the collision. Foul play is not suspected, but investigators would like to speak with all involved drivers to assist them in this investigation.

The OPP-HSD Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the investigation along with the coroner to confirm the pedestrians identity. The Queen Elizabeth Way lanes were closed for the investigation but have since reopened.
