SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT INVOKES MANDATE IN WELLAND

(WELLAND, ON) - The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following a collision involving a police vehicle on Highway 58A in Welland.
On Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 9:40 pm, an officer in a police vehicle from the Niagara Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division was involved in a collision with a motorcycle on Highway 58A and Reaker Road.
The motorcycle rider was transported to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The officer did not sustain any injuries.
While the on-scene investigation continues, Highway 58A is temporarily closed in the westbound and eastbound lanes between Rusholme Road and Netherby Road. Reaker Road is closed between Highway 58A and Netherby Road.
