EAST ALGOMA OPP RESPOND TO COMPLAINT OF POSSIBLE IMPAIRED DRIVER

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) - Driver located asleep at the wheel.
On April 23, 2026, at approximately 9:00 am, officers from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a driver who appeared to be impaired and operating a badly damaged SUV. The vehicle had entered the Ministry of Transportation truck inspection station on Highway 17 near Highway 108 in the Township of the North Shore.
Police arrived shortly thereafter and located the driver asleep at the wheel. Upon speaking with the individual, officers determined that they had consumed an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and subsequently evaluated by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).
Terri-Lynn KUULA, 43 years old, from Serpent River First Nation was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - drug
- Dangerous operation
- Fail to have insurance card
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 4, 2026. The driver was also issued a 90‑day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
