NUMEROUS CHARGES AFTER THEFT CALL AT RETAIL STORE

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) - Police arrest person after numerous items were stolen from Hillside Drive South retail store.
On April 12, 2026, at approximately 7:30 pm the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called in relation to a person who had loaded laundry basket with multiple items and left the store without paying. Police located the person walking on Ontario Avenue a short time after, and when confronted, the person became irate, attempted to flee, and assaulted police officers. After a brief altercation, the person was arrested and charged.
Sydney TYNAN-BYRD-OWEN, 19 years-old, of Elliot Lake, was charged with:
- Theft under $5000 - shoplifting
- Assault Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 11, 2026.
