ARREST MADE IN 2023 OVERDOSE INVESTIGATION IN FORT FRANCES

(FORT FRANCES, ON) - An individual has been arrested and charged following a drug overdose investigation that began in 2023 in Fort Frances.

On Thursday, June 22, 2023, officers from the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence for a suspected overdose. One person was located in medical distress and transported to hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, members of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad arrested an individual in Thunder Bay on a warrant in connection with this investigation.

An 18-year-old of Fort Frances was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled drugs and Substances Act.

The identify of the accused, who was a youth at the time of the incident, is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will not be released.
