(Emo, ON) - A R.I.D.E. check for the Emo Bass Classic resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver who was violating a conditional sentence order (CSO).
On May 22, 2026, at approximately 9:30 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on Colonization Road in Emo. A driver at the check complied with an approved screening device demand and failed. They were arrested at the scene and transported to the Fort Frances OPP detachment where additional breath testing was conducted. Further investigation also revealed that the driver was violating terms of a conditional sentence order related to the consumption of alcohol.
Rodney Michael GODBOUT, 63-years-old from Emo ON is facing one allegation of breach of a conditional sentence order. The accused was also charged criminally with one count each of impaired operation of a conveyance and operation of a conveyance 80 milligrams or over. The accused was issued a 90-day driver licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was released by the court and is scheduled to appear next on June 25, 2026, in Fort Frances to answer to the charges.
