(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) - An arson investigation leads to charges against one person.
On Sunday October 5, 2026, the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to a structure fire in Virginiatown where a residence was engulfed in smoke and flames. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
As a result of the investigation, Pierre MATTE, a 58-year-old of Virginiatown has been arrested and charged with arson - damage to property.
The accused was remanded into custody and is to next appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice January 30, 2026.
