REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS PERSON LEADS TO WEAPONS CHARGES

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) - The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a suspicious person report that led to weapons charges.
On March 3, 2026, at approximately 9:15 am, the OPP attended Prospect Avenue in Kirkland Lake for a report of a suspicious person breaking open a safe. The person was arrested and during the search incident to arrest police located a homemade conductive energized weapon, spring loaded knife, along with two other knives, and a large amount of Canadian currency.
As a result of the investigation, Robert Filion, a 54-year-old of Thunder Bay, has been arrested and charged with:
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order - 6 counts
The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on May 15, 2026.
