KIRKLAND LAKE OPP LAYS ATTEMPT MURDER CHARGE

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) - The Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged three people with attempt murder following a firearm-related incident in Kirkland Lake.
On Saturday, May 2, 2026, at approximately 2:15 pm, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a firearm-related incident in the area of Woods Street, in Kirkland Lake. One person was transported to the local hospital by the District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board Paramedics and has been flown out by Orgne to a trauma centre. The person is being treated in hospital for life-altering injuries but is in stable condition.
With the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec, three persons have been arrested and charged. As a result of the investigation, Alexandre GAGNON, a 32-year-old of Maple Grove, Quebec, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Attempt to commit murder using a firearm
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Robbery using a firearm
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
The accused remains into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on May 3, 2026.
Additionally, Jonathan MONETTE, a 31-year-old of Salaberry-De-Valleyfield, Quebec, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Attempt to commit murder using a firearm
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Robbery using firearm
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
- Fail to comply with probation order
The accused remains into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on May 3, 2026.
Additionally, Dany PAQUETTE, a 41-year-old of Beloeil, Quebec, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Attempt to commit murder using a firearm
- Discharge firearm with intent
- Robbery using firearm
The accused remains into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on May 3, 2026.
The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of the Kirkland Lake Crime Unit, North East Regional Support Team, North East Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine, and OPP Forensic Identification Services.
