(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) - Police have identified the deceased in relation to a death investigation in Kirkland Lake.
On Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 5:45 pm, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a local hospital to assist District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board paramedics with an individual who had sustained serious injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries.
A postmortem has identified the deceased as Michael MAURER, 49 years old of Kirkland Lake.
On Saturday, May 23, 2026, police charged a 44-year-old Kirkland Lake resident with second degree murder in relation to this investigation.
