DEATH INVESTIGATION IN KIRKLAND LAKE

(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON) - One person has been arrested and charged in connection with a death investigation in Kirkland Lake.
On Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 5:45 pm, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a local hospital to assist paramedics from the District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board (DTSSAB) with an individual who had sustained serious injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Derek ROMAN, a 44-year-old resident of Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with second degree murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code.
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake and was remanded into custody with a next appearance date of May 29, 2026.
