(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a number of incidents reported recently.

Mischief

On May 17, 2026, shortly after 6:30 pm, suspicious Remotely Piloted Aerial System (drone) activity was reported near Warkworth Institution in the Municipality of Brighton.

Officers attended the area and located two individuals on Percy Boom Road. As a result of the investigation, a drone, cell phones, and approximately 650 grams of suspected drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and cannabis, were seized.

Andrew MACDONALD-ELY (31) from Gatineau, Quebec, has been charged with:

  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Delivers contraband to, or receives contraband from an inmate

Abir MOHAMMED KHAN (27) from Montreal, Quebec, has been charged with:

  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Delivers contraband to, or receives contraband from an inmate

Both accused were held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

Motor Vehicle Collision - Port Hope

On May 15, 2026, shortly after 3:30 pm, members of the OPP responded to a single-vehicle collision on County Road 10 in the Municipality of Port Hope. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also attended due to reports of injuries.

Officers arrived and located a passenger vehicle in the ditch. After speaking with the driver, police initiated an impaired driving investigation. As a result, the individual was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with non-serious injuries.

Mazy LOCKHART (19) from Millbrook has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound were also imposed.

Motor Vehicle Collision - Trent Hills

On May 12, 2026, at approximately 8:20 pm, EMS and police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Allan Mills Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills, after a passenger vehicle left the roadway.

Officers arrived and spoke with the uninjured driver. An impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in the individual being taken into custody.

While in custody, the accused caused damage within the detachment and assaulted an officer.

Tara Lyn SHILLINGTON (41) from Frankford, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property
  • Assault a peace officer

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in June.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound were also imposed.
